This week, tennis star Serena Williams was honored with the Sportsperson of the Year award by Sports Illustrated. To get in touch with it historic would be an understatement it&rsquos been 32 years given that a woman was the sole recipient (the US females&rsquos soccer group won as a group in 1999), and it&rsquos the 1st time a black woman has ever been recognized.
Not surprisingly, Williams&rsquo acceptance speech final night was the sort of instant inspiration that comes from decades of court time and pushing past challenge just after challenge. Thank you for reminding girls everywhere to in no way stop dreaming and operating our butts off for what we want, Ms. Williams! &mdashJamie McKillop
1. &ldquoIn 1984 in Compton is exactly where I started my journey of becoming a tennis player on beaten down courts. Now 30 years later, I still have goals and still have dreams of winning, and this award in fact makes me want to operate tougher to attain a lot more ambitions.&rdquo

I&rsquove had people today appear previous me due to the fact the color of my skin, I&rsquove had men and women overlook me for the reason that I was a woman. I&rsquove had critics say I&rsquod del mar queen in no way win one more Grand Slam when I was only at number seven, and here I stand right now with 21 Grand Slam titles&hellip and I&rsquom nevertheless going.&rdquo
3. &ldquoFor all the ladies out there, yes we can do it. My hope by winning this award [is that I] can inspire lots of, quite a few, several extra women&hellip to stand ideal right here on this podium and accept an additional Sportsperson of the Year. So yes ladies, it can be done.&rdquo
